It was on January 16, 1860 that St. Xavier's College was founded
by a small group of Jesuit Father's of the Society of Jesus. What
began as a tiny seed grew into a mighty tree sheltering now more
than four thousand students every year in its various departments.
The
object of the institution is to impart a full course of liberal
education to the youth of the country. As education in the proper
sense is not mere learning, but the formation of the whole person,
we take special care in the formation of the character of
students, inculcating in them values of religion and morality and
a strong sense of social justice. It is our hope to build a body
of young men competent and dedicated, ready to serve the country
and become instruments of social change.

St.
Xavier's College, Kolkata is affiliated to the Calcutta
University. It runs five departments: Arts, Science, Commerce,
Education and Business Administration.
The motto of the school as well as the college "NIHIL ULTRA"
(literally meaning, "NOTHING BEYOND") means that our aim is set on
the highest ideals.

ST. XAVIER'S COMPUTER CENTRE |

St. Xavier's College with its pioneering legacy, was the first
educational Institute of the city to think in terms of introducing
Computer Studies. Instead of introducing Computer Science only in
the undergraduate level, it was thought wiser to initially offer
various courses on Computer Studies under the aegis of what we
call today St. Xavier's Computer Centre.
Since its inception in 1985, it has grown from strength to
strength and at present it is a big tree providing Computer
Education to people from all walks of life. St. Xavier's Computer
Centre is accredited to the Dept. of Electronics under the DOEACC
(www.doeacc.org.in) scheme to offer "A" level, "O" level and "CCC"
courses.
