This is me Dr. Dipak Ranjan
Sarbadhikari, 66 and I am an Orthopaedic Surgeon living in Calcutta, West Bengal, India. This
web site is an attempt to piece together all my interests in one location. A
little bit of fun, sharing of information and a reference database. I have had
no training in computers and so I crave your indulgence. Some of the pages
are still under construction, but here is the loose plan. Family : My family consists of my dear wife Sukla and my two sons, Suman who is a computer professional, and my younger son Ayan who is working in a BPO office. House: Click here to have a look at our home in Calcutta. I was born in Calcutta on Sunday, February 14, 1943 at 5 pm (St. Valentine's Day). World War II was on and a raging famine brought thousands of refugees pouring to our city pavements. My father, Dr. Kanak Chandra, was a renowned Orthopaedic Surgeon, a Freemason and a Rotarian. My mother, Sabita, was instrumental in instilling the moral values of life in me, my elder sister Sunita, and my younger sister Ketaki. We are Hindus by religion. Our mother tongue is Bengali, but we speak fluent English. Our family tree traces back to more than 500 years ago. The surname Sarbadhikari is unique and anyone having this name is a relative of ours. I belong to the 29th generation. I had my education at Calcutta's well-known St. Xavier's School (1948-'59)and College (1959-'61) and graduated in Medicine from the Calcutta Medical College - the oldest in the country established in 1835. Our class of 1961 has formed The '61 Club with members spread all across the world. After doing my M.S. in Surgery in Calcutta, Sukla and I moved onto the United Kingdom for an English Sojourn (1973-'77) where I had training in Orthopaedic Surgery and obtained my F.R.C.S. (Edin.) Diploma. We spent a happy time in Warrington (where Suman was born - 1973), Liverpool (1974), Portsmouth (1975), Otley (1976) and Norwich (1977). I am a Rotarian since 1979, a PHF. and a Past President of The Rotary Club of Calcutta (chartered 1920), the oldest Rotary Club in India. I have maintained an 100% attendance record for the last 31 years since my induction on 26 Sep 1979. Go to the Potpourri section where you will find a mixture of interesting articles.
