West Bengal Orthopaedic Association

Dear members.
Much awaited WBOACON 2011 is round the corner. The conference
may have drawn to a close before the pages of this news letter are
thumbed by you. Don't let it slip out of your memory that next month
(25th of February, 2011) the WBOA-BOA meet is going to take place
in addition to the conference. This is the first time that an academic
session of this magnitude is about to be witnessed by West Bengal
atTollygunge Club.

The most conspicuous incident of this month is the Bone Tumour
update under the able supervision of Dr. Dipak Roy Chowdhury.
It may be safely asserted that those who failed to attend have been
deprived of an unprecedented seminar.

I sincerely congratulate Dr. Swarnendu Samanta for being elected
the uncontested Vice President of the Orissa Orthopaedic Association.
Thanking you Long Live W.B.O.A

REPORT FROM JANUARY BONE TUMOR UPDATE PROGRAMME
________________________________________________________

The Bone Tumour Update was held on January 29, 2011 at the
WBOA office Seminar room in front of audience of 20 !! This included
just four PGTfe - only two medical college were represented.

Starting with the welcome address by Dr. Protyush Chatterjee,
WBOA President and the inauguration by Dr. N.P. Debroy, speakers
included eminent Orthopaedics surgeons, interventional radiologists,
pathologists, nuclear medicine specialists and radiotherapists
represented by Dr. Dipak Roychoudhuri , Dr.Debdutta Chatterjee
Dr. Avijit Guha Majumdar, Dr. Mukesh Jain , Dr. Shravasti Roy,
Dr. Gautam Bhattacharjee, Prof. N.D.Chatterjee and Dr. Nirmal Dey.

Topics ranging from the history of bone biopsy to the role of
SPET & PET scan in tumour diagnosis, treatment modalities
including recent advances were avidly dealt with by the speakers,
with the discussion spilling over to lunch.

The saddest part was the extremely poor response from the
PGTs - they really missed out on a real opportunity to update
themselves !

LETTER FROM IOA PRESIDENT
________________________________________________________

Dear IOA Members,

It has been my pledge to make IOA more meaningful to everyone.
I am presenting before you a new scheme to be called 'IOA Family
Caretaker scheme'. This idea is the brainchild of Dr.Ramasubba Reddy,
Member of the Professional Indemnity Committee. I place due credit
to him and would encourage more members to come forward with
their contributions to make IOA more helpful to its fraternity.
The proposal is as follows.

Every IOA member will have to contribute about Rs 1000 to
Rs 1500 every year. We have about 8500 members. So, IOA will
collect Rs 1,27,50,000.(One crore twenty seven lakhs and fifty
thousand) This will be the corpus money. 80% of this money will
be distributed to the families of members who unfortunately expire.
Hypothetically presuming that we have about 10 obituaries every
year, the amount that we can distribute to their families would be
Rs 1,00,00,000 - so every family would get about Rs.10,00,000
(Ten lakhs) presuming that a member contributes for a 30 year
period also - his maximum contribution would be Rs. 45,000 and
his family is assured of Rs.10,00,000 lumpsum to take care of
their needs. The remaining 20% will be deposited with the IOA
as a corpus fund to be used in case of contingencies or in
any other manner that the IOA deems fit. The tax implications
of the same are being analyzed.

I would like all of you to analyze this and write back with your
comments and any other suggestions to improve this scheme.
This will also encourage orthopaedic surgeons who are not
IOA members to join IOA and make IOA one of the strongest bodies.

I request Dr.Anil Jain and Dr. Sudhir Kapoor to publish this in the
IJO and IOA newsletter. I request all other members to forward
this mail to their contacts and give this scheme the required publicity.

I would like your responses within 15th of January. I would be
presenting this in the March EC after incorporating your opinions.
Thanks & Regards,

Dr Rajeev Naik
